How long are lab’s in heat?

I don’t know why I didn’t see this coming. Sadie is now in her first “heat”. Of course, next weekend is our anniversary and we had plans to go skiing in the Poconos. Fortunately we have light hardwood floors in our house, so it’s easy to spot and easy to clean. Unfortunately, my parents (who were going to watch Sadie for us) have rugs in every room of their house and are not ok with Sadie coming over.

Make your own dog treats

Found a great recipe for Peanut Butter dog treats. My wife made them for the dog on New Year’s Day and she loved them. Sadie loves anything with peanut butter in it, so this recipe was sure to be a hit.

Can dogs eat Turkey?

On November 23rd, I put up a blog post asking the question, Is turkey bad for dogs? Rather quickly, I started receiving new visitors and comments from people that found my blog, from a Google search. I wanted to angle this to benefit everyone. So I asked some questions to some fellow bloggers and learned that adding a poll is beneficial to everyone.

Holiday vacation

I hope everyone had a great holiday. We certainly did, at our home. Sadie’s first Christmas was a great success. We entertained for Christmas eve and didn’t get to bed till after 1am. Getting the dog to stay on the lawn

It only snowed about two inches yesterday. Then came the ice. Around 10pm when the storm calmed, I went outside to shovel. As I mentioned in a previous post, we live on a dead-end block, with very little traffic. As I walked outside, I looked the dog and thought… hmm… I wonder if she’ll listen to me and stay on the lawn. On our block, there are 5 other lab’s and all are very well behaved. They stay on their lawns with no help of an electric fence or shock collar. So why can’t my dog do that? (more…)

Michael Vick sentenced to jail!

Standing before U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson in a black-and-white prison suit today, Michael Vick heard the verdict on charges he ran a “cruel and inhumane” dogfighting ring and lying about it: Guilty.

Michael Vick was sentenced to 23 months in prison Monday for his role in a dogfighting conspiracy that involved gambling and killing pit bulls.

Christmas presents for dogs

I’m sure this will be the first of a few posts this year, regarding toys and things we bought/found for the dog. I wanted to share a new item with you, that I thought was great

My wife and I were talking about what to get for the dog. I think the only thing we both agreed on was that it needed to be hard rubber or a rope toy. Going to the Dog Park

Tomorrow morning, the Lab & Golden Retriever club (I had mentioned in my last post) is getting together. It’s rather early for a Saturday, but it should be a nice day. I even plan on bringing my kids and letting my wife sleep late.

Earlier this week, I was doing some quick shopping on amazon, for some things for my wife. I picked up a New Angle Gulpy Pet Water Dispenser, which is pretty cool. (more…)

Bored Dog

I have a dog that digs!

I am so unhappy about this. My backyard was beautiful before Sadie came home and now there are holes and dirt everywhere you can see. She’s even taken an interest in the neighbor’s dachshund. Now, she pulls down pickets of our six-foot wood fence. Yesterday, I received a call from my neighbors that Sadie was in their yard. She actually pulled down enough pickets so she could fit through the fence to play with their dog. (more…)
